Very special lens with extreme wide angle. Great solution for extreme sports enthusiasts, interior, events, landscapes or for photographers who just want a fun lens to use out and about.

What is a Fish Eye Lens ?

A fisheye lens is a special type of ultra-wide angle lens. They are small, ultra-wide, and show a distorted, spherical view of the world, most evident in the curved, outer corners of the photo.

Why Fisheye Lenses Are Awesome?

  • Distortion  – a lot of times, distortion can be annoying. But it doesn’t have to be. Use fisheye distortion to your advantage. Find scenes in which the fisheye effect actually adds something to the scene. When used right, fisheye distortion can be pleasing to the eye and can be preferred to a normal wide-angle lens. Try to use the distorted lines and curves as a way to lead the viewer into an image.
  • ‘Defishing’ is possible – sometimes fisheye lenses can be used as extreme wide angles. By putting the horizon in the middle the horizon line is generally almost straight. With certain tools the curved lines can be straightened to get a super wide angle images.
  • Using it with round shapes creates great compositions - a fisheye generally curves straight lines. So if you photograph round shapes with it the curving gets less noticeable. Try it out on tubes, round stairways, intersections, etc.
  • Point it up - you can get some crazy line play when pointing a fisheye lens upwards or partly upwards (with the ground still in the frame).
  • A fisheye is great for behind-the-scenes shots, covering a lot at once.
  • You can use them on portraits - try to make extreme wide angle selfies or portraits. Don’t place your subject too close to the edge or you will get too much distortion.
  • Creativity - a fisheye lens in the right hands can create some imagery that wouldn’t have been possible with normal lenses. Try to keep your fisheye lens on your camera for a longer period of time and point it everywhere. You will be amazed on how many interesting things you can see on the screen of your camera compared to what you see with your own eyes.

Incredible value for money

Kelda is one of those very little know brands but if you want a good quality fisheye lens that won't break the bank, this 8mm is a bargain. For any branded fish eye you will need to pay 700-1000 USD, for this price you get autofocus, better light sensitivity, little more shaprness. But in the end you can still make about same images as with this one! The differances may not always be worth that premium price. This lens i really fun to play with and offer real good quialty.

Focusing is manual but don’t worry, with the incredible depth of field available with any extreme wide angle lens, this is almost irrelevant. For most shots focusing at infinity is all that is required. It’s not weather sealed so don’t use it in rain, snow and avoid humidity.

The lens is made of metal and some plastic, it’s sturdy and feel good. Focus ring is very smooth. It has some chromatic aberation that is easy to automatically remove in postprocessing. You can also remoove the fish eye effect in post and use it as ~11mm normal wide angle lens.

For the price, it has actually very good build quality and outstanding sharpness in the centre when stopped down. The lens also features stereographic projection, which means images look more natural than a standard fisheye lens.
